Håndlavet Slikkepind

Møn Bolcher

I was commissioned to do some photo work for www.moenbolcher.dk It was a fascinating day and my camera gear smelt of melted sugar for weeks after.

I missed that smell when it went, a trip to the smokery fixed that but that is another story!

Ironically the factory is situated in part of what was an old sugar factory, part of which is still in operation.  Everything is pretty much handmade just on a large scale with some mechanisation but there is a lot of hard manual labour involved.

Boiling pots of liquid sugar are moved around then emptied onto hot plates where they cool and some colouring and flavourings are added.

As the sugar cools it is hand kneaded and rolled in a carefully learned order  before being rolled by machine.

The machine in the picture above rolls the very large and very heavy rolls into thin strands after which the individual sweets are stamped out into a range of different shapes and styles according to tradition then left to cool on long metal tables before being packed.

In the pictures below you can see the long strands of sweets cooling

I really like the patterns they make and the lollipops well the big ones weigh 2.5kg’s each!
